I’m just going to say it. Some people are going to lash out at me and that is fine. But, I have been doing this for a long time and you people need to know the truth: FUCK CARDIO!

Let me explain: Every day I see people who are looking to lose weight by jumping on a tread mill or signing up for a spin class. They work hard but never get closer to their weight-loss goals. Look, if you get a high from jogging that’s cool, keep doing whatever makes you happy; but if your goal is to get fit and lose fat stay away from those tread mills. There are more effective approaches that will give you a bigger bang for your buck.

Instead, let’s focus on strength training. It is safer than basic cardio and is more effective for putting on lean muscle. Lean muscle EATS fat, so the more lean muscle you have the more calories you are going to burn.

If you are worried about becoming bulky I have two things to say:

  1. Muscles are sexy (for men and women) so start working out already!

  2. It is a full time job being a bodybuilder - working out 2-4 times a week is not going to make you look like a monster.

There will be people that say “but Peter you need cardio to make sure your lungs and heart are healthy”. Let me be clear: I want your heart and lungs to be healthy too, but you don’t have to be running around hurting your joints to do so.
